Predator Prequel Film Prey Gets R-Rating For Strong, Bloody Violence

Predator lovers get ready because the next film in the franchise has received an R rating from Motion Picture Association (MPA), which means it's not holding back on any blood or gore.

This one is definitely not for the faint of heart.

Prey has earned the highest age rating due to its ‘bloody violence’, coming a long way from it’s PG-13 rating for the Alien vs Predator movie.

If director Dan Trachtenberg promised us bloody gore violence, bloody gore violence is exactly what we demand.

The 10 Cloverfield Lane director also teased that the upcoming science-fiction flick will be a ‘different breed’ of Predator film, taking us 300 years into the past.

While speaking with Comic.book.com, Trachtenberg said: "I think our Predator in my mind, not only does he exist, you know, 300 years before, but I think in sci-fi movie terms, time moves very slowly.

"If the way that Star Wars functions or even Star Trek, you know, it's like 300 years. Ships aren't suddenly like so different.”

He added that even ‘diehard’ fans of the franchise wouldn't be able to predict what the future film has in store.

He said: “But I think this guy's perhaps from a different hemisphere of the planet and a little bit of a different breed. 

"So even his look is a little new, it's familiar, but new. So I'm excited for people, even for diehard fans, to really see something they hadn't seen before."

According to Movieweb, Prey follows a Native American Comanche warrior, Naru and the rest of her tribe, who are some of the ‘fiercest’ hunters of the Great Plains.

However, Naru and her tribe come under threat when a mysterious creature revealed to be a highly evolved chilling predator begins terrorising her camp, which results in a horrifying showdown.

Earlier this month, the official trailer dropped, leaving little easter eggs of some death-defying stunts, big jump stares and hair-raising fight sequences to come.

Also, a big chef’s kiss to Sarah Schachner, responsible for the film’s music, as the trailer has already promised a blood-curling soundtrack that’s eerily reminiscent of Us or Get Out.

Amber Midthunder plays the starring role of Naru and is joined by newcomers Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp and former professional basketball player Dane DiLiegro as the Predator.

Prey will be released by 20th Century Studios exclusively to Hulu on August 5.
