Viewers calling hilarious new R-Rated Netflix movie ‘perfect successor to Superbad’

The new comedy has shot up towards the top end of Netflix's charts already

It feels like once a year there is a film that tries to be Superbad.

That is in and of itself a near-impossible feat, with the 2007 comedy being not only a classic of the genre, but managing to perfectly encapsulate a young person’s experience from the late 2000s.

Spawning the careers of Michael Cera and Jonah Hill, as well as solidifying the burgeoning comedy career of Seth Rogen, Superbad is an incredibly high yardstick to measure any film by.

Netflix viewers now think that, 17 years on, one film has finally cleared that hurdle and managed the seemingly impossible.

The new R-Rated Netflix comedy has all the ingredients to be a successor to Superbad - and that is just what some fans are saying it is.

Young American students embarking on a crazy night of partying, drugs, drinking, unexpected shenanigans - and a hard R-rating that allows the film to go wild?

You can see where some people are making the comparison.

Check out the trailer and see if you’re convinced.

The film in question is called Incoming, and it only released this past weekend on the streamer.

Despite that, it has already shot up to number five in the UK, and number two in the world.

The film follows a group of incoming freshman who manage to score an invite to their first high school party.

Again, this is Incoming not Superbad.

Unsurprisingly, the film was not made for critics whatsoever, receiving a critic score of just 14% on Rotten Tomatoes.

That isn’t stopping fans, though, who are clearly aware that this is just not the type of film that tends to score highly with critics.

One fan tweeted: “OMG I'm watching the new Netflix movie Incoming and it feels like I'm watching another Superbad movie. It's funny and hilarious”

Another said: “My wife and I watched the new movie Incoming on Netflix. We went in with low expectations. Let me tell you. You should watch this movie.

“We were laughing so hard the entire time! I'd say that it's a mix of Project X and Superbad. Absolutely hilarious! Honestly so good!”

Beyond the Superbad comparisons, Incoming also got a lot of understandable nods to Project X.

A third fan posted: “Incoming was the wildest party movie since Project X!”

One IMDb review, which gave the film a score of 8/10 approached the comparisons head on, saying:

“I absolutely loved Superbad back in the days. This movie follows a similar formula and either the screenwriter was a fan of Superbad and wanted to pay homage or he just wanted to make something similar.

“The characters are likable and it was one "party night" I had fun with, which kinda reminded me of the good old days of, not only Superbad but stuff like Harold and Kumar, 21 and over or Take me Home Tonight.

“I wish studios would give us more of these types of movies, as I personally really miss them.”

Incoming is available to watch on Netflix now.
