Selma Blair has revealed her multiple sclerosis is now in remission thanks to stem cell treatment.

The Cruel Intentions star announced she was battling the crippling immune disease back in 2018 and she's been undergoing treatment to mitigate its effects.

Her MS was so severe that she lost the ability to use her left leg and found it difficult to speak, which was on top of her intense daily pain.

She decided to undergo an 'aggressive' course of chemotherapy and stem cell transplant, according to Entertainment Weekly, in the hope it would reignite her immune system.

It appears to have done the trick.

Ahead of the release of her documentary that dives into her battle with MS, titled Introducing Selma Blair, the 48-year-old told a discovery+ TCA panel about her journey.

"My prognosis is great. I'm in remission. Stem cell put me in remission. It took about a year after stem cell for the inflammation and lesions to really go down," she said.

"I was reluctant to talk about it because I felt this need to be more healed and more fixed.

"I've accrued a lifetime of some baggage in the brain that still needs a little sorting out or accepting. That took me a minute to get to that acceptance. It doesn't look like this for everyone.

"I have really felt unwell and misunderstood for so long that it's just, me."

She explained how the flare ups she would get from her MS condition would leave her exhausted and absolutely debilitated. The thing that kept her going was her son.

"It's absolutely for my son," she said. "I have no desire to leave him alone right now."

Blair has thanked everyone who looking after her and allowing her to have a second lease on life.

"People took great care of me. I never really like life. I do now - strange, huh?" she said. "Just because life's so weird. I was so scared in life. To suddenly start to find an identity and a safety in me, to figure out boundaries, time management and energy. I'm having the time of my life."

MS is a condition which can affect the brain or spinal cord, causing a range of symptoms such as vision loss, pain, fatigue, muscle weakness and impaired co-ordination.
