People still think 1993 film was Leonardo DiCaprio’s best

Nearly 30 years after it was released, people think this 1993 DiCaprio film is his best.

Leonardo DiCaprio is arguably one of the most famed actors of all time, starring in some of the biggest films to date.

We all know the 48-year-old for his role as Jack Dawson in the Titanic and Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street - and it is fair to say, those are two of his biggest roles.

But this 1993 film featuring DiCaprio is described as their favourite film from the actor and his best performance, too.

Many have taken to social media to say that What's Eating Gilbert Grape, the 1993 romance/drama is DiCaprio's best.

DiCaprio is actually not the main character we follow in What's Eating Gilbert Grap, with Gilbert Grape (played by Johnny Depp) taking centre stage.

Gilbert has a lot of responsibility as a young man, caring for his overweight mother who cannot leave the house plus his disabled younger brother Arnie, played by DiCaprio.

While he is settled working at a grocery store, Gilbert is about to have his world turned upside down.

The Twitter account In a Cinema Place took to the social media platform to rank Dicaprio's performance in the film amongst some of his best like playing Romeo in Romeo and Juillet and Hank in Marvin's Room.

Another person on Twitter added: "Favourite performance by Leonardo DiCaprio: What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)."

Author and film podcast host Brian Rowe also contributed to the debate, saying: "One of my favorite Oscar nominations ever, and I mean EVER: Leonardo DiCaprio in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape."

And another person heaped the praise on the forgotten 1993 film: "After all this time, when I think about Leonardo DiCaprio's artistic genius, I think Arnie Grape in 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' (1993). He was stunning as an intellectually disabled 17 year old."

One Twitter user even reminisced of a behind the scenes from What's Eating Gilbert Grape between Dicaprio and another famed actor in Johnny Depp.

They wrote: "thinking about this adorable moment between johnny depp and leonardo dicaprio on the set of 'what's eating gilbert grape'"

They were referring to a clip a clip posted by a Johnny Depp fan page, which you can watch below:
