People Are Bidding Thousands For Clump Of Grass From Liam Gallagher's Knebworth Gigs

The singer returned to the site 26 years on, and some fans seemingly think the hallowed ground is worth a pretty penny

For every great occasion, there's always a chancer looking to make a bit of money - and Liam Gallagher's gigs at Knebworth have proven to be no different.

The singer played two historic gigs at the site with Oasis back in 1996, during the band's heyday.

A quarter of a million people watched Oasis over two nights, with many, many more missing out on tickets.

Over the past weekend, 26 years on from the landmark gigs, LG returned to play two more shows at Knebworth House in Hertfordshire, marking a lofty zenith of his solo career few could ever have anticipated.

And what better way to commemorate this special return than with a clump of grass?

One cheeky gig-goer put a lump of the hallowed turf up for sale on eBay for a starting price of a fiver, which is a bit of a rip off to be honest.

However, the bidding has gotten a little out of hand, and 114 bids later the highest offer currently stands at a frankly idiotic £65,100.

It's not even a decent clump.

Speaking to Leicestershire Live, seller David Watson said: "I jokingly said I'm going to pick some grass and put it on eBay, and when we were watching one of the acts, I grabbed some and put it in my shorts.

"When I got back, I whacked it on for a fiver, and now it's accrued tens of thousands."

He added: "There's a bloke selling his bouncy castle business for £20,000, and I told my girlfriend if I get paid, I'll buy that as it's the only way to make money with inflation at the moment."

Ba-dum tiss.

Whether the top bidder actually puts their money where their mouth is come the end of the auction on Sunday remains to be seen.

My money is on 'definitely not' though, given loads of other sellers have listed Knebworth grass too, with comparatively chunky clumps going for as little as 99p.

Liam's return to Knebworth was a resounding success, with fans who were there back in '96 and others who weren't even born revelling in a set comprised of solo tracks - including several from his new album C'mon You Know - as well as plenty of Oasis classics.

Speaking to LADbible ahead of the gigs, Liam said that two-and-a-half decades later, there would be some key differences: there would be phones, there wouldn't be Noel, and he would remember it.

"The first night my mam's coming, so I'm gonna just get in there, do the gig and get home," he explained.

"I'll have a chilled one with her, no drinking and that... so I'll remember one of them anyway."

He continued: "Then the next night my mam's going home, so I'll have a party then; but, you know what, you sit there and you go, 'The next night we're gonna get f**king massive and it's gonna be this,' - I can't do that anymore these days, I have a couple of pints and a couple of cigarettes and it's just like, 'I'm going to bed, man.'

"You think you're going to have the biggest night ever, I think they've been done.

"After a couple of hours it's like, 'F**k that man,' everyone talking s**t in your ear, 'I'm going to bed mate.'

"But I'll have a good go at it anyway."
