Follow up to The Office is coming to TV incredibly soon

Expect to see a fan-favourite character pop-up in the follow-up series

Fans of The US Office get excited, as a continuation of the iconic mockumentary series will be hitting our screens very soon.

When Greg Daniels adapted Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's workplace comedy for US audiences back in 2005, it's unlikely that he realised he was creating one of the most iconic TV shows of the 21st century.

Running for nine seasons, The US Office put the town of Scranton, Pennsylvania, on the map and turned its leading cast members into household names.

After the series wrapped in 2013, the showrunners weighed up numerous follow-ups, including a spin-off focusing on the antics at Dwight Schrute's (Rainn Wilson) farm; however, such ideas were ultimately shelved.

Until now.

Earlier this year fans of the sitcom found themselves with a sense of nervous excitement after it was announced there would be an Office follow-up heading their way very soon.

Developed by Daniels alongside Michael Koman, with Gervais and Merchant serving as executive producers, The Paper will follow the documentary crew from Scranton's Dunder Mifflin as they look to replicate the success of their initial documentary.

The search leads the crew to Toledo, Ohio, and local newspaper The Truth Teller, a company which is trying to revive its declining readership through the use of volunteer reporters.

Peter Rabbit and Star Wars actor Domhnall Gleeson will star in the leading role of an idealistic new employee, while Sabrina Impacciatore plays the newspaper's editor.

Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, Ramona Young, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Tim Key and Eric Rahill will also star in the series.

When will The Office spin-off The Paper premiere?

According to a report from Variety, fans don't have much longer to wait until The Paper makes it to our TV screens.

The series will air on Peacock, with the first four episodes premiering on 4 September, followed by a new instalment every Thursday until 25 September.

Fans in the UK can access Peacock shows via NOW TV or Sky, depending on their subscription.

Will any of the cast of The US Office appear in The Paper?

Given the fact that it's a spin-off rather than a direct reboot, I'd imagine it would be highly unlikely that we'll see the likes of Steve Carell, John Krasinski or Jenna Fischer wandering about the offices of The Truth Teller any time soon.

However, the series will see original cast member Oscar Nuñez reprise his role as accountant Oscar Martinez, which certainly leaves the door open for any potential cameos should the showrunners wish to do so.
