Lily James has publicly defended the steamy sex scenes in her upcoming TV series based on the volatile relationship between Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee.

The hotly anticipated show is set to air on Wednesday (2 February), and stars Lily as Pamela alongside co-star Sebastian Stan, who is set to play Motley Crue drummer Tommy.

Early reviews suggest watchers will be subject to a number of saucy sex scenes in the show, with a particular focus on the infamous 90s sex tape between Pamela and Tommy that was leaked to the public.

Lily told The Sun: “We really felt that the sex scenes had to be a part of the story and had to be essential to the script and progressing their relationship and looking at what happened.

“It was a really great constant conversation and nothing was set in stone.”

Lily revealed she did heaps of research on the Baywatch star in order to prepare for the role.

She said: “She was one of the biggest stars on the planet and an icon. I got a lot out of this. It was definitely the biggest acting challenge of my life.

“It felt alive and I really loved that.”

The Brit actress even admitted her regret in not stealing the famous red swimsuit from the costume department when she was filming.

She revealed: “I asked to keep it, and they said, ‘no’. I should have just stuck it in my handbag.”

Pamela and Tommy were bound in a whirlwind romance, as they married in Cancun just six weeks after they met in December 1994.

The pair were then embroiled in a sex tape scandal, and filed a $10 million lawsuit in an attempt to prevent the tape from being published.

However, the suit was eventually dropped; the pair called off their marriage in 1998.

They share two sons, Brandon, 25, and Dylan, 24.

Eager fans only have to wait until Wednesday (2 February) when the first three episodes of Pam & Tommy will be released on Disney+ and Hulu.
