A new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has seemingly offered us a glimpse of Sauron (no, that's not a euphemism) – and fans are pointing out a common observation. Check out the new trailer here:

The first episode of the much-anticipated prequel series is set to drop on Amazon Prime Video on 2 September, and we've had our appetites whet by a fresh trailer in which we appear to get a brief look at Anson Boon as Sauron.

The actor hasn't actually been confirmed to be playing the wicked scourge of Middle-earth, so he could just be some moody-looking minor villain, or even one of the goodies caught in an uncharacteristically ominous-looking moment.

Regardless, many fans have concluded that he is Sauron – and he looks a lot like Eminem.

Slim?

Taking to Twitter, one fan quipped: "These men are sweaty, elves weak, dwarves are heavy. There's hobbits on middle earth already, orc machete."

Another said: "Cause I'm Slim Sauron, yes, I'm the real Sauron. All you other Slim Saurons, are just imitating. So won't the real Slim Sauron, please stand up? Please stand up, please stand up."

A third added: "Anyone else getting #Eminem vibes from this potential 'Sauron' reveal during the @LOTRonPrime Rings of Power trailer?"

Whether or not this is indeed Sauron/Eminem will soon be revealed, with the huge show edging closer and closer to our screens.

The series, set thousands of years before the events of the world-renowned The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings books, will follow the events of the Second Age and the forging of the famous rings.

One of the young stars of the series believes the show will bring the work of JRR Tolkien to 'a whole new generation of people' who were too young to witness the original film trilogy.

Tyroe Muhafidin, who plays Bronwyn's son Theo, said it would give youngsters a chance 'to witness Middle Earth all over again and fall in love with it all over again'.

The 17-year-old, from Perth, Australia, began filming at the age of 14 and had to balance school work with production.

"Obviously the films came out 2001 to 2003 and I was born in 2005 so it's not really my generation but it's been on around the house, my dad used to watch it," he told the PA news agency.

"The great thing about this show is it's now bringing Tolkien and Middle Earth to a whole new generation of people that did miss the trilogy (who) are now going to witness Middle Earth all over again and fall in love with it all over again.

"We now have more things to share."
