Netflix drops Luther trailer ahead of March release

Idris Elba returns as detective John Luther

Netflix has just unleashed the trailer for Luther: The Fallen Sun and Idris Elba is back and better than ever.

Check it out here:

Yes, our rogue detective John Luther is back four years after the long-running BBC crime series came to an end.

When fans last saw Luther, his vigilante-style crime-solving days were officially over, and he was finally put behind bars.

So, what's next for Luther and his tweed coat?

A Netflix summary of the highly anticipated flick reads: "In Luther: The Fallen Sun - an epic continuation of the award-winning television saga reimagined for film - a gruesome serial killer is terrorising London while brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther (Idris Elba) sits behind bars.

"Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary."

Alongside Idris Elba will star Andy Serkis as villainous tech billionaire David Robey, who is using technology to manipulate and kill the public and Cynthia Erivo as Luther's rival detective Odette Raine.

In the trailer, detective Raine tells DSU Martin Schenk 'we need to know where he is'.

As far as fans know, Luther has been in prison for the last few years, but judging by this trailer, it looks like he's managed to escape.

Luther, who proclaims that he's 'still a copper', is dead-set on stopping Robey, but detective Raine seems fairly reluctant to let him help with the case.

Not much else is known about the film so far, but Idris has teased fans with some clues.

"We really peel the onion back here because we had the time and scale to do that," he told Empire back in November.

“It also gives Neil [Cross] a lot more, you know, Luther-land to play with, in terms of where Luther can go, how he goes, what the landscape is.

“We break out of the gritty streets of London, we take it outside of that a little bit. And that’s great. It feels like now we’re entering a different life of the Luther experience.”

Luther is drops on Netflix on 10 March.

“It’s really dangerous when expanding from television to film to throw a lot of money at it, and for that moment to change the characteristics of the show,”

Luther: The Fallen Sun will be in select theatres from 24 February and will drop on Netflix on 10 March.
