Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes has revealed she was only paid £60,000 for her role in the franchise - although in hindsight she doesn't begrudge the small paycheque all that much.

Fans will remember the British star played Professor Sprout in two movies - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets released in 2002 and 2011’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 - becoming a beloved character to a generation of kids.

But in a recent interview with the Metro, the 81-year-old has revealed that at the time she wasn’t particularly impressed with the amount she was paid.

She told the publication: “I never made Harry Potter millions. I think the three or four main people did and they deserve it but my character didn’t.

“I was only in two and I only got £60,000 for being Professor Sprout but I’m not grumbling... now.

"I grumbled then but it made me very famous.”

It sure did, but despite the success the role brought her, Margolyes has previously revealed that she’s not actually a Potter-fan, which is sure to come as a bit of a shock to fans.

In a video on Cameo, which was shared by the fan who bought it, Margolyes admitted: “I understand you and Chris are huge Harry Potter fans. Here’s the thing, I’m not.

“I’m not against it, I’m just not interested. I’ve never seen a film. I’ve never seen the books, I’ve never read them. I just pocket the money when it comes and I’m very grateful for it.

“I think that JK Rowling is a terrific writer and I’m sure Harry Potter’s world is a good world. But it’s not my world.” Ouch.

Earlier this month, the actor paid tribute to her Harry Potter co-star Robbie Coltrane following his death from multiple organ failure aged 72.

Margolyes fondly remember working with Coltrane, saying he was ‘exceptional’.

Speaking on BBC’s Radio 4, she said: “He was a very fine actor and a delightful man. He was huge in stature and personality and also in heart.

“I just feel furious that he has died, [it’s] such a waste. He was exceptional and I am really sad.”

She went on to say that the late actor was ‘irreplaceable’, adding: “He's absolutely a unique figure and powerful and towering over Scotland. I really loved him and I'm so sad about it [his death].”
