Rapper and producer Timbaland has credited overcoming his narcotics addiction as one of the reasons that he's managed to shed 130lbs as part of a dramatic physical transformation.

The 47-year-old has had a tough time over the last few years, battling a $4m tax case, splitting up with his wife, and beating his drug demons, but he now looks in peak physical shape.

Here he is after his dramatic weight loss.

The prolific musician, famous for his hits with Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake, and Nelly Furtado, told Men's Health: "God has me under construction, which I'm still under,

"I don't feel like I'm complete. I don't want to ever feel like I'm complete, 'cause my mind would probably get idle."

Timbaland, who was born as Tim Mosley, managed to bustle his way into the world of music by creating hits for artists such as Aaliyah and the aforementioned Missy Elliott, but then hit a wall and found himself in a period of real struggle.

Back in 2011, he was forced to go under the knife for dental surgery, but then developed an addiction to the pain medication he was given, Oxycontin and Percocet.

Then, in 2013 he started the process of divorcing his wife of five years, before he was slapped with a $4m tax case from the Internal Revenue Service in the USA for unpaid taxes.

That's when he started to gain a load of weight and developed pre-diabetes.

After battling all of these issues, he finally realised that he needed to get himself into shape, not just for himself, but for his three children.

His daughter is 12, and he has two sons aged 17 and 27. It's for them that he began his radical turnaround.

He continued: "It's like a bright light going on in your brain. That's how you know what true love really is.

"One of the toughest things I've been through. The only things that got me through it were my kids, my girl, the help of God keeping my mind still."

Now, he's working out every day.

Well, it seems as if his rigorous workout routine - which includes weight training and boxing - as well as a nutrition plan, is paying dividends.

Whilst there are sacrifices to be made in the quest for fitness - he says he only really eats to fuel his body nowadays - it seems as if he's happier, healthier, and fitter as a result.
