Greg James walks off from Radio 1 show after Taylor Swift drops double album

The breakfast show host abandoned ship after Taylor Swift dropped her surprise double album early this morning

Greg James stormed off his breakfast show in a strop earlier this morning just minutes after it began as Taylor Swift managed to upstage him by dropping a surprise second album.

The BBC Radio 1 star, 38, threw in the towel shortly after clocking on for his hosting gig at the break of day while sarcastically thanking the pop star for stealing all of his Friday morning (19 April) listeners. Take a look at this:

Much to the delight of her army of fans across the globe, Swift finally released her 11th studio album, titled The Tortured Poets Department, at midnight last night.

The singer, 34, released 17 new songs for her fans to go crazy over, while also apparently taking some veiled shots at her ex-boyfriend Matty Healy and dropping what fans think is a 'diss track' aimed at Kim Kardashian.

Although that was more than enough music to keep Swifties occupied for a good few weeks, the Bad Blood songstress then followed the album up with a surprise second part in the early hours of the morning.

The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, which boasts another 15 tracks, was released at 2am EDT.

For us Brits, it dropped when most of us were just waking up bright and early to our 7am alarms.

Announcing she was supplying a double dose of love songs to the world, Swift wrote in an Instagram post: "It’s a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album.

"I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second instalment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours."

Although her supporters were obviously over the moon, Greg James wasn't exactly best pleased as it completely derailed his breakfast show.

The presenter's Radio 1 gig kicks off at 7am each morning and lasts until 10.30am, so the timing of Swift's surprise double album wasn't exactly great for him.

Realising he was dealing with a significant lack of listeners, he fumed: "Oh for god sake Taylor!

"Ten minutes into the breakfast show, and she's just released another album," James continued.

"There's going to be no one listening! There is literally no one listening now. There's no point.

"There's no one here because everyone's just gone to...I'm just...that will do."

James then slammed his headphones down on the desk before leaning back towards his mic and adding: "I'll go and listen to it as well! Shall we reconvene in a couple of hours? Honestly!"

The tongue-in-cheek outburst really managed to tickle social media users, especially as he shared footage of it online alongside the caption: "Welcome to The Tortured DJs Department."

James added: "No point anyone trying to put anything else out into the world today is there. We don’t stand a chance against a DOUBLE TAYLOR SWIFT ALBUM. Congrats on it though x."

People were amused by him poking fun at Swift, while telling him he should have simply played the 31 tracks throughout the entirety of his morning show.

One said: "Should have just played all 31 songs."

Another commented: "The solution is to turn your show into a listening party and just play the album haha."

A third joked: "AND Gregg Wallace started an insta live at that moment, so everyone not listening to Taylor would have been watching that."

And a fourth laughed: "'Oh for gods sake Taylor' is such a mood."
