The live music scene is constantly changing as the audience’s desires evolve and shift. A few years ago, a DJ set at a coffee shop at 9am on a Saturday would’ve been completely unthinkable as a concept. Now, in 2026, they’re literally all the rage. But what does Anna Lunoe, iconic and legendary Australian DJ and producer who has been in the game for well over a decade, think?
Anna stopped by MUSICBible Australia to share her thoughts on plenty of changes to the industry from when she started to where she is now, but her thoughts on these so-called ‘matcha raves’ are pretty clear.
“3am is niche,” she told MUSICBible Australia host Jackson Langford.
“Doing anything at 3am is a niche vibe — not everyone wants to do that. Obviously, in this day and age, people are way more concerned with wellness than we were at 19. When I was 19, wellness wasn’t part of the conversation.”

Despite that, Anna thinks that maybe sunrise at a coffee shop isn’t the future of dance music.
“For now, people are really, in a good way, concerned with their health. But I think there is some middle ground to be found. For me, nothing beats an afternoon into evening set.”
Elsewhere in the chat, Anna shares her wisdom on how the communities within dance music have changed, how proud she is of Nina Las Vegas and Ninajirachi over their recent successes, and the journey she took to finally releasing her debut album ‘Pearl’ last year.
