Australia prides itself on its festival culture, right? Chips on a stick, the touring festival (which hardly happens anywhere else), and the chance to see some of the best music both Australia and the world has to offer. But how do our festivals hold up against the festival behemoths of around the globe?
Well, there’s no better people to ask than Blusher. Being one of Australia’s buzziest pop acts of the year, Lauren, Jade and Miranda have been touring the globe non-stop, playing to crowds of all different sizes and to audiences speaking all different languages. They’ve done festivals here and abroad — but which is the best? They stopped by MUSICbible to speak all things festivals, and they’ve given their verdict.
“Hard to say, but everyone’s so friendly here,” Jade told host Jackson Langford.
“They really lean into getting a bit dusty and dirty and not being precious.”
According to Blusher, that doesn’t just apply to Australian festival crowds, but Australian crowds in general.
“I think crowds in general in Australia are always just really up for it,” Lauren continued.
“They’ve just got so much energy.”
But it’s not just the crowds that set Australian festivals apart, Australia itself clearly has a hand in it too.
“The other day we played a festival,” Lauren said, “and I got right off stage and went for a swim in the ocean. It was just incredible!”
If you want to see Blusher do what they do best this festival season, you can catch them all around the country as part of St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival, on a lineup also featuring Chappell Roan, Pinkpantheress, Geese, The Dare and more. The festival kicks off in the Gold Coast on February 8, before heading to Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, wrapping up in Perth.
