Avril Lavigne speaks out on conspiracy theory she died and was replaced by body double

The singer has addressed the crazy rumour

Avril Lavigne has yet again addressed the wild conspiracy theory that she died and was replaced by a body double.

Yes, this is actually a rumour that has been circling around internet forums since the early 2000s.

I mean, the 39-year-old has had a crazy career and is considered a key figure in the development of the pop-punk genre.

Eight Grammy Award nominations also back up that notion.

Lavigne is still very relevant music-wise and has almost six billion listens on Spotify, with a daily average of 21.4 million monthly listeners, according to Kworb.

However, for the past 20 years, the Canadian pop-punk star has been haunted by the theory that she died in 2003, shortly after the release of her first hit album 'Let Go'.

Conspiracy theorists would look at how the singer's appearance has 'changed' over the years and concluded that the only reasonable explanation that she was replaced by a woman named Melissa Vandella.

The name came from the idea that Lavigne has 'Melissa' written on her hand.

Another flip on the theory is that this body-double was supposedly meant to be a paparazzo decoy to protect her private life.

Anyway, Lavigne has denied the theory on multiple occasions.

On Wednesday's (15 May) episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, the 'Complicated' singer addressed the 'dumb' rumour.

Host Alex Cooper asked her what the craziest rumour she has heard about herself, to which Lavigne responded: "I know what you're talking about.

"I mean, it's just funny to me. Like, on one end, everyone's like, 'You look the exact same. You haven't aged a day.' But then other people are like, there's a conspiracy theory that I'm not me.

"Honestly, it's not that bad. It could be worse, right? I feel like I got a good one. I don't feel like it's negative. It's nothing creepy.

"Obviously I am me, it's so dumb. I think that they've done that with other artists. I'm not the only one. I think, like, other people have that."

Cooper also pointed: "I'm telling you what's crazy is you haven't aged.

"I'm staring at you. And, like, I'm picturing you with your auburn hair. And I'm like, oh my God. You literally look the same from when you were younger."

In 2019, the singer also told Entertainment Weekly: "More like that it's just a dumb internet rumour and [I'm] flabbergasted that people bought into it. Isn't that so weird? It's so dumb."
