The lead singer of Jane’s Addiction has issued an apology after punching the band's guitarist mid-song during a concert in Boston.

The rock band were performing Leader Bank Pavilion on Friday (13 September) as part of a comeback tour after the original line-up reunited for their first show in 14 years back in May.

But following the on-stage bust-up, the rest of the shows have now been cancelled.

Videos went viral on social media when fans apparently could hear singer Perry Farrell swearing into his mic before punching guitarist Dave Navarro.

Crew members and another member of the band rushed to hold him back and break-up any possibility of a full-blown fight.

The rest of the show was then cancelled with an announcement the following night's gig also wouldn't be taking place. It was then announced this afternoon that Jane's Addiction would be taking 'some time away'

And Farrell's reps have now shared a statement from the star with Variety, which says: “This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologise to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show.

"Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behaviour, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”

Over the weekend, Farrell's wife, Etty Lau, also released a statement to give some explanation for just what had gone on.

She said the singer's 'frustration had been mounting' due to some technical problems with the show he'd already been complaining about.

Lau explained: "He felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band. Perry had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat every night.

"But when the audience in the first row, started complaining up to Perry cussing at him that the band was planning too loud and that they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost it."

Farrell's wife claimed he swung for the guitarist after 'screaming to be heard' over the loud stage volume.

She also alleged that he was 'punched' in the stomach three times when he was being removed from the stage before later 'breaking down' in response.

LADbible contacted Jane's Addiction's representatives for comment.
