After season five was left on a cliff hanger, Aussie viewers will finally know when they can see how the saga ends.

Netflix Australia has announced the sixth season of the award-winning crime drama Peaky Blinders will finally be released on June 10.

Although the first episode of the sixth and final season premiered on the BBC in the UK February 27, Netflix subscribers have had to sit patiently to see what happens to Tommy Shelby and the gang.

Since the show aired on BBC Two in 2013, it has become a cultural phenomenon, amassed fans worldwide and even picked up a few BAFTA awards on the way.

The final season will see Cillian Murphy jump back into suspenders to reprise his role of gangster leader Thomas Shelby.

However, the show will have a notable absence with the death of actress Helen McCrory - who played Elizabeth ‘Polly’ Gray, who lost her battle with cancer in April last year.

Murphy, who also serves as the co-producer for seasons five and six, told Variety: “I think this is the culmination of the series that hopefully improves upon the last season and makes the most recent one the richest and deepest one that we possibly can, partially because of all of the pandemic shit happening in the world and, of course, the really sad loss of (Helen) McCrory.

“I think we are determined to make this a special series and we have been extra committed to working hard. I think the fans will be pleased!”

Murphy also said the final season would be a ‘tribute’ to McCrory as her and her character’s spirit will very much be ‘felt’ in the series.

Though the show’s last episode will premiere on April 3 on BBC Two, Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight confirmed there was also a film in the works.

Last October, while speaking at the BFI London Film Festival, Knight confirmed that the movie will go into production in 2023.

“And then I am going to write the feature which will be set in and shot in Birmingham,” he said.

“And that will probably be the sort of the end of the road for ‘Peaky Blinders’ as we know it.”

Knight also rebuffed his involvement in a spin-off series, as he said he’d instead ‘pass on the baton’.

No word yet on the film’s release date, but season six of Peaky Blinders will premiere June 10 on Netflix.
