‘Addicted’ viewers think Netflix’s new series The Night Agent is the best series of the year as it rockets to the top of the viewing charts.

Watch a trailer here:

Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent is a political action-thriller that follows FBI Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) as he lands a job in the White House situation room.

A synopsis from Netflix says: "The Night Agent is a sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on a low level FBI Agent who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings - until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office."

After dropping on Netflix on 23 March, the action-packed thriller became the most-viewed title this week after debuting at #1 on the English TV List with 168.71 million hours viewed.

It also ranks #3 for premiere week of viewing ‘across all Season 1 TV’ and appeared in the Top 10 in no fewer than 93 countries.

The stats prove that people are well and truly hooked, with reaction online illustrating the very same.

One tweeted: "The Night Agent. Addicted."

Someone else said: "Whoever on Netflix made The Night Agent should be in charge of content it’s their best in a long time."

A third commented: "The Night Agent is a must watch, the best series to ever happen on Netflix in my opinion. I’m on episode two but I’m hooked!!!"

A fourth also said: "The Night Agent might be the best thing I have watched this year."

Writing in our Netflix Bangers Facebook group, another fan wrote: “I LOVED The Night Agent!!!! Now I can’t find anything I want to watch that will be as good.”

Another said: “An addictive series from the first minute of watching!”

And there’s good news for those of you who have already raced through it and enjoyed the series, as it’s already been renewed for a second instalment by Netflix.

Creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan said in a statement: “The last week has been a whirlwind as we’ve finally been able to share The Night Agent with the world.

“To see the tremendous reaction to the show has been a great joy and is a credit to our cast, our writers, our directors, our crew and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix.

It's already been renewed for a second season.

“We couldn't be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on Season 2 to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans."

The new season will comprise 10 episodes, with Ryan promising to answer ‘one of the big questions’ the first series posed – you can read more on that here, but we don’t want to spoil it if you’ve not had a chance to tune in just yet.

Sony Pictures Television President Katherine Pope added: “We are thrilled to see The Night Agent become an instant global sensation and can’t wait to continue telling this story with our remarkable cast, creative leader, Shawn Ryan and our wonderful partners at Netflix.”
