If you're looking for something to watch tonight, you could do worse than Hacksaw Ridge, which Netflix viewers are calling the 'best film ever'.

Yep - the film that earned Andrew Garfield his first-ever Oscar nomination is finally available to watch on the streaming giant.

The biographical war film, which first hit theatres back in 2016, was directed by Hollywood legend Mel Gibson and written by Andrew Knight and Robert Schenkkan. Check out the trailer here:

Netflix recently announced that they would be adding Hacksaw Ridge to the site in the US at the start of the month (1 September) and it has since sky-rocketed to the site's 'Top 10' list. Viewers in the UK can watch it on Amazon Prime.

Based on the 2004 documentary The Conscientious Objector, directed by Terry Benedict, the film received a bevy of Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director, and it ended up picking up the statuettes for Best Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

Hackshaw Ridge is a whole six places ahead of Saving Private Ryan on IMDb's 'Top 50 War Movies' ranking.

Hacksaw Ridge follows the true story of Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield) who went down in history after winning the Congressional Medal of Honour despite refusing to bear arms during WWII on religious grounds.

Doss, who was previously ostracised by fellow soldiers for his pacifism, went on to risk his life save 75 men in the Battle of Okinawa back in 1945.

He cemented himself in history after becoming the first man in all of American history to receive the accolade without firing a single shot.

The wartime epic was an instant smash after gaining global levels of recognition with an initial budget of $40 million which went on to home a staggering $180 million at the box office.

The film earned Andrew Garfield his first-ever Oscar nomination.

A second exclaimed: "Watching Hacksaw Ridge!!! So glad it’s finally on Netflix!"

"Hacksaw Ridge Is On Netflix," alerted a third, "time to bust out the tissues and ice-cream."

A fourth echoed: "They put Hacksaw Ridge on Netflix! LETS GOOOO!"

A final Twitter user advised: "If you’ve never seen Hacksaw Ridge, it’s on Netflix. Amazing movie. 10/10 recommend."
