A new Netflix true crime series is set to be released exploring what is known as the 'most famous celebrity ever charged with murder'.

Set to be released at the end of January and directed by Floyd Russ, Netflix is set to 'bring the story to a new generation, offering a new lens on the historic trial'.

Taking place some 30 years ago, it was a 1995 a double murder case and subsequent trial that gripped the entire world with the accused one of the most famous men on the planet at the time.

"This was a trial involving the most famous celebrity ever charged with murder," says the trailer.

Yes, we are, of course, talking about the 'trial of the century' and everything from the white Bronco slow police chase to the gloves - and if they fit.

Another Netflix Original true crime series, American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson, will explore exactly what happened back in 1995.

A trailer for the series can be see here:

Simpson, who died in April last year, was one of the most famous names on the planet.

A former NFL superstar and subsequent actor, starring in The Naked Gun trilogy alongside Leslie Nielsen, his career came to an abrupt end in 1994 when he was charged with the double murder of former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, who were stabbed to death outside Brown's home.

The trial, which took place in 1995 over a colossal eight month period of time, became a media sensation after being broadcast around the world.

This was after Simpson, who passed away in April 2024, did not turn himself in and ended up in a police pursuit through Los Angeles, with the former American footballer hidden in the boot of a white Ford Bronco.

Despite an overwhelming amount of forensic evidence against Simpson, the prosecution thought, he was acquitted of both murders in the autumn of that year, sending shockwaves throughout the US and wider world.

"This is a story that has so many faces and so many elements that when you contextualise it historically it takes on a new form every few years," Floyd Russ says.

The series features fresh interviews with many of the key figures from the investigation and trial, such as former LAPD detective Mark Fuhrman.

It also includes new conversations with multiple witnesses including Kato Kaelin, attorneys for the defense and prosecution in Carl Douglas and Christopher Darden respectively, and Goldman’s sister, Kim.

Russ says: “Our interview subjects have a power to reflect in a new way with the passage of 30 years.

"Their emotions have evolved, and the way they’re able to talk about it is different than they ever have before. That sense of reflection from the people involved was apparent from the get-go, which made us feel that this story was one that needed to be told in a new and different way.”
