Netflix viewers stunned journalist didn’t spot ‘two biggest red flags’ in baffling new documentary

People can't believe what they're seeing in the new Netflix documentary

Fans of the latest hit Netflix documentary are taking to social media to express their astonishment at a journalist missing so many 'red flags'.

It's another one of those Netflix shows which delves into a horrifying true story and leaves you wondering just how the hell someone was able to pull the wool over people's eyes for so long.

We went through this whole thing with The Tinder Swindler, which pushed audiences beyond the point of belief with some of the things that happened there.

However, Netflix's latest documentary, this one about conman surgeon Paolo Macchiarini, has got viewers astonished that his partner didn't spot he was a fraud for so long.

The three-part documentary tells the tale of Macchiarini, a surgeon who carried out a series of fraudulent procedures that left patients dead, and how he was able to get away with it for so long.

A new Netflix documentary lifts the lid on an 'absolute fraudster' who treated people like 'human lab rats'.

Something viewers really can't believe is how he was able to hoodwink Benita Alexander, a former producer for NBC News who started sleeping with Macchiarini while doing a documentary about his supposedly brilliant work.

He duped her into believing he was a talented surgeon who counted the Clinton family, Barack Obama and Pope Francis among his patients.

In the end Alexander only realised something was wrong with the relationship when he realised the Italian wedding with a performance from Elton John and personally officiated by the Pope wasn't really happening.

People who've watched the series are astonished she didn't pick up on the 'red flags' sooner, commenting on social media that she missed clear signs.

One viewer said the two main issues she ought to have spotted were that he had 'multiple phones' and she 'never saw his home' in all the time they were together.

"How you gonna have a man w tons of phones, have a dead patient’s mother tell you the venue doesn’t have your wedding booked, see an article saying he’s killing people on purpose but it isn’t until you see Pope is out of town that you freak out?" another wrote.

Viewers can't believe how those closest to him missed 'red flags' for so long.

This is one of the stories we follow in Bad Surgeon: Love Under the Knife, which also follows Alexander to Barcelona where she discovers the conman surgeon has another woman on the side, a twist basically every viewer saw coming.

Bad Surgeon shows how Macchiarini was able to dupe people, including duping Alexander into a relationship so he had a journalist in his corner.

It's one of the most bone chilling documentaries Netflix has made, with numerous patients dying because of the fraudulent surgeon who built a reputation as a 'super surgeon' but killed patients.

Macchiarini inserted plastic tracheas into people which had been completely untested, while convincing people he knew what he was doing.

Bad Surgeon: Love Under the Knife is available to watch now on Netflix.
