If you're looking for something to watch this weekend, Netflix has just added a film with a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score.

The movie, dubbed one of the 'best films of the year', stars Austin Butler and was directed by Baz Luhrmann.

We are of course talking about Elvis, which was released back in 2022.

Butler stars alongside Tom Hanks who portrays Presley’s infamous manager Colonel Tom Parker in the movie.

Meanwhile, Olivia DeJonge, from Netflix’s The Society, plays Elvis’ wife Priscilla Presley.

The Elvis biopic follows the late star's rise to fame and his complex personal and public relationships, focusing particularly on his ties to manager, Parker.

Since its release, the film has been hailed by critics, meanwhile Butler's performance was described as 'phenomenal'.

Film critic Joonatan Itkonen described it as 'a powerhouse of music, superb performances, and immaculate filmmaking' adding that the movie was 'one of the best films of the year – any year.'

Meanwhile, at the time, Lisa Marie Presley, said that Butler deserved an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll.

When asked by Extra, Presley’s only child said: "A thousand percent... I mean, truly. You know, I’m a bit biased, but absolutely, 100 percent... I can look at it objectively as well, sure.

"I think that he did such an incredible job."

Butler was nominated for Best Actor, but lost out to The Whale star Brendan Fraser.

Director Baz Luhrmann has previously spoken about how Austin Butler spent two whole years living as Elvis for his role, saying the actor also shared a similar tragic backstory to the singer, which he tapped into.

Both Elvis and Austin were just 23 years old when their mothers died. And it was a dream about his mother that led to Austin landing the role.

"He had a nightmare about his mother, and he went down, and he played 'Unchained Melody' in a flood of tears and stuff, and he sent a video, and I saw it, and it wasn't an audition," said Luhrmann.

"I'm not sure what I would say it was, except just unbelievable, spiritual, raw emotion.

"He's lived as Elvis for two years, day and night, and his commitment to the role was such that I had to tell him to stop because he would hurt himself. I don't think I've had an experience like that with an actor. I think it was a life or death thing for him."

You can watch Elvis on Netflix now.
