Netflix viewers demand Fool Me Once spin off for Four Lions star

Fans of Netflix's latest Harlan Coben adaptation are desperate for Adeel Akhtar and Dino Fetscher to continue their on-screen bromance

There's one thing on Netflix people are watching more than anything else since the start of 2024, and you've guessed it, it's another crime thriller.

It can sometimes feel like every other release on the streaming platform and its rivals is another crime thriller, which has to go down as the most-loved by modern audiences.

The latest series to capture the world's imagination is Fool Me Once, based on the book of the same name by Harlan Coben. In the first week and a half of the new year it's become the number one watched TV show across the globe.

A staggering 37 million people have watched it, some 27 million more than the second most watched show on the streaming platform.

The Netflix show follows former solider Maya Stern, played by Michelle Keegan, who sees her 'murdered' husband on a hidden nanny cam. It leads her to uncovering a deadly and criminal conspiracy going back decades.

The Fool Me Once cast is star-studded, with Richard Armitage, Emmett J. Scanlan and the legendary Joanna Lumley making up part of the main cast.

And aside from the central plot, it's the two actors heading up the local police force's presence in the show that have got fans demanding more.

Adeel Akhtar starred in 2010 comedy/drama Four Lions.

Adeel Akhtar and Dino Fetscher star as DS Sami Kierce and Defective Marty McGreggor, in a classic TV double act made up of an old school copper teamed up with a younger whippersnapper.

The relationship starts off tumultuous, but by the end of the show the pair grow on each other despite being in very different situations - both professionally and personally.

Now, fans of the show want their on-screen friendship to continue despite it being a limited series. Sorry, no season two, folks.

Fans couldn't get enough of Dino Fetscher playing alongside Akhtar in Coben's new Netflix success.

Taking to X, one user posted: "Great nonsense, binge-watching tv drama... but we really need to see the brilliant and totally underrated Adeel Akhtar and Dino Fetscher in their own detective series, please!"

Another replied: "I was just saying the exact same thing. Their own spin-off cop show would be superb! Great double act."

A third user game for the spin off said: "Could not agree more! The thought came to me after binged watched the whole lot and at the end I thought them two coppers NEED a series!"

In reality, we're sure the chances of them teaming up as their characters remains low given the limited run for the show. But, even if they don't, others still want Akhtar to continue down the gritty detective route when it comes to future roles. "Halfway through Fool Me Once and my main note is that Adeel Akhtar should be given his own detective show. He gives excellent rumpled sleuth." While another added: "I’m only two episodes in, but I can’t see Adeel without seeing DCI John Luther."
