Netflix viewers struggling to get through Jimmy Carr’s new special for one reason

The British comedian's newest Netflix special hasn't gone down well with everyone who's seen it

Netflix viewers are struggling to get through one of the site’s latest releases.

Sure, many people are being left ‘speechless’ by the harrowing Baby Reindeer miniseries and others are binging through an ‘insane’ psychological thriller.

But it’s a new comedy special that many are finding difficult to get through.

Jimmy Carr’s new Netflix special Natural Born Killer landed on the platform earlier this week (16 April).

And while - as potentially expected - it’s got the kind of content some may be offended by, it’s something else that many viewers are struggling to put up with.

In his new special, rated 18 on Netflix, Carr ‘refutes the idea’ that you’re not able to joke about anything nowadays with ‘his edgy takes on gun control, religion, cancel culture and consent’.

Yeah, sounds like a bit of a minefield for 2024 right?

The day before Natural Born Killer landed on the site, Carr released a little apology letter in ‘advance’ on X.

He wrote: “I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise to (insert aggrieved party name here).

“Your feelings were hurt / sense of propriety was outraged / you were offended (delete as appropriate).

“I’m sorry you feel that way. (Add sincerity to taste)

“Jimmy Carr.”

But it’s not necessarily people having their ‘feelings hurt’ that is filling criticism online.

One wrote: “I’ve never really cared for Jimmy carr at all but the funniest part of this video is him pulling this face after each joke.

“He's so proud of his edgy 12-year-old punchlines. maybe the cool kids will let him sit with them today!! Maybe!!!”

Another echoed: “Love how much Jimmy Carr painstakingly prefaces how offensive his comedy is, just absolutely laboriously declaring how edgy it's gonna be, then after all the preamble comes out with the most milquetoast jokes that wouldn't have even made Mary Whitehouse raise an eyebrow.”

With others even saying: “Jimmy Carr is the saddest version of this trope because he's not even doing a whole right wing reactionary cancelled thing, he's just stuck in a high school mindset doing the same aimless Dead Baby Joke level stuff that was ‘edgy’ 25 years ago.”

Some said it’s ‘all edge but no point’ as others labelled him as a teen from the 00’s. And one user simply slammed: “Jimmy Carr thinking he’s edgy IS THE JOKE.”

But many did praise Carr, as one wrote: “Just watched it…outstanding!! So funny!”

LADbible has contacted Carr’s reps for comment.
