Guy Ritchie's new The Gentleman series has finally arrived, following on from the 2019 movie of the same name.

While the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant having starred in the original film, the new Netflix series has a completely different plot, along with a new-look cast.

The story centres around the Duke of Halstead, Eddie Horniman (Theo James), the estranged son of an English aristocrat.

Eddie gets a taste for the underground crime world when he is forced to take over the secret family business.

"It's a very different story, completely different story," James told LADbible.

"You know, it's about a soldier that comes back to his family seat and his father's died.

"And he unwittingly inherits the entire state over his older brother.

"So it's a different story. It's in the world, but it's more in a fun, bombastic Guy Ritchie way, there's a bit of a deconstruction of British classism, the hyper wealthy, the fading power of the aristocracy.

"So in terms of that, no, it's not it's not the same in any way."

Now, it seems viewers can't get over the penultimate scene in the pilot, which sees Eddie's older brother Freddy (Daniel Ings) dance around in a chicken suit against his will.

Freddy - a wealthy drug user - owed a family of Scouse drug dealers a lot of money, so much so he couldn't afford to pay them back.

While Eddie gets together as much cash as possible, the two parties strike a unique deal to spare his life - which involves Freddy dancing around like a madman in a chicken suit.

It will make more sense when you actually watch it.

"In a way it really needs to be this fiercely degrading moment for my character, where he's just stripped bare, and kind of torn apart," Ings explains.

"And somebody just exposes him in front of his brother and shames him in this way.

"I credit Guy with kind of recognising that actually, the way it was written on the page was a fun scene, but it was kind of silly, but it needed to be grosser than that, in a way."

Viewers have since been scarred by the scene, as one person tweeted: "The chicken scene in The Gentlemen is so intense for no reason."

"The Gentlemen chicken scene is so sad omfg," a second added.

"The chicken scene in 'The Gentlemen' Season 1, Episode 1 is one of the finest movie scenes l've ever seen in my life," wrote a third.

"So well-written and perfectly acted out. F**king hell!"

The Gentlemen also stars Ray Winstone, as drug kingpin Bobby Glass, who runs his industrial cannabis empire from prison.

Kaya Scodelario also stars as Susie Glass, Bobby’s fashionable and ruthless daughter, handling the drug operation while her dad is locked up.

Vinnie Jones plays as the estate's groundskeeper Geoff Seacombe, while Giancarlo Esposito plays one of the richest men in the world, with a big secret.

The Gentlemen is available to watch on Netflix now.
