A colourist working for DC Comics claims he quit because he's 'tired' of recent changes he perceives as woke - in particular the change in Superman's motto to remove the reference to 'the American way'.

Gabe Eltaeb made the announcement during a YouTube livestream with fellow former DC Comics worker Ethan Van Sciver.

DC Comics reveals that Superman is bisexual.

Speaking on the podcast, Eltaeb said: "I'm finishing out my contract with DC. I'm tired of this s***.

"I'm tired of them ruining these characters; they don't have a right to do this."

He went on to express his frustration over the alteration of the DC slogan which has gone from 'Truth, Justice and the American Way' to 'Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow'.

On this topic, Eltaeb explained: "What really p***** me off was saying truth, justice, and a better world. 'F*** that, it was Truth, Justice, and the American way.

"My Grandpa almost died in World War II; we don't have a right to destroy s*** that people died for to give us. It's a bunch of f****** nonsense."

In a later video, Eltaeb told fans: "I'm sorry I didn't say anything sooner we're going to stand up to these tyrants and we're not going to let them intimidate us there's a hell of a lot more of us than there are of them."

According to reports Eltaeb had been working on Superman: Son of Kal-El and was supposed to be the colourist for the upcoming issue where current Superman Jon Kent comes out as bisexual.

He says the choice to make the character bisexual didn't influence his decision to quit.

After Eltaeb made his comments and expressed his feelings, Van Sciver tried to describe what had happened, saying: "Gabe just exploded on my livestream.

"He had a lot to say, a lot of feelings and a lot of thoughts that he wasn't able to share because he was working for DC Comics.

"And that's the reality. You cannot come out and be a conservative and criticise the company that you work for in this way. You have to be completely supportive of the corporate agenda, whatever it is.

"You have to keep your negative or critical opinions to yourself, and it's so liberating to be able to not work for DC comics and be able to say exactly what you think.

"And I think that's what Gabe is going through here."
