Noel Gallagher misgenders Sam Smith as he calls them a 'f**king idiot'

Noel Gallagher misgenders Sam Smith as he calls them a 'f**king idiot'

The Oasis singer launched a foul-mouthed rant about the 'current state' of the music industry in a recent radio interview

Noel Gallagher has misgendered Sam Smith after labelling them a 'f**king idiot’ in a radio interview about the ‘current state’ of the music industry.

Smith, 30, announced in September 2019 that they were changing their pronouns to ‘they/them’ after a ‘lifetime of being at war’ with their gender.

“I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out,” Smith explained in an emotional Instagram post at the time.

“I’m so excited and privileged to be surrounded by people that support me in this decision but I’ve been very nervous about announcing this because I care too much about what people think but f**k it!

“I understand there will be many mistakes and misgendering but all I ask is you please please try.

“I hope you can see me like I see myself now.”

However, three-and-a-half years later, it seems some people are continuing to misgender the star – including Bob Geldof during a recent This Morning interview and Alex Jones on The One Show.

Now Noel Gallagher has done the same, having mentioned the singer while discussing pop music on Dutch radio station Kink.

The 55-year-old Oasis star was berating the 'current state of pop music', saying: “Music has become quite fractured and chart music is dominated by pop. Pop music is alright if the pop stars are cool. Sadly the stars of today are f***ing idiots.”

Specifying exactly who he felt was ‘uncool’, Gallagher said: “Sam Smith.”

When asked why he had chosen Smith, he appeared to ignore the fellow singer’s preferred pronouns, replying: “Look at him!”

Smith recently revealed that, while they haven't faced any issues in their personal life after announcing their new gender identity, they have been subjected to harassment on the streets.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, they explained: "I think all the only negatives in the struggle have been in my public life and my job. And just the amount of hate and s****ness that came my way was just exhausting.

“It was in the f****** news. Someone spat at me in the street. It's crazy. What I find hard about it is it's like, if that's happening to me and I'm famous, I'm a pop star, can you imagine what other kids, like queer kids are feeling?

“And it's just so sad that we're in 2023 and it's still happening. It's exhausting and especially in England.”

Smith added: “So we've got two sides, really. My personal life and then my public life. And in my personal life, there's not one negative.”
