Brittany Murphy made an 8-Mile joke to Eminem while watching him perform live

Brittany Murphy made an 8-Mile joke to Eminem while watching him perform live

The hilarious moment happened at the 2002 MTV Awards, with Brittany Murphy making the rude gesture as Eminem performed on stage.

Most of us will make jokes at our friend’s expense, but we probably wouldn’t do it whilst they are in the middle of a major performance.

However, a clip of Brittany Murphy flipping off Eminem at the MTV Music Video Awards has recently resurfaced.

Despite the middle finger being an almost universal insult, the rude gesture is actually a cheeky in-joke from when the pair starred in 8 Mile together.

Believe it or not, the Just Married star had never actually flipped someone off until she worked on the iconic film.

At the time of production, Murphy was 24-years-old and had to actually be taught by none other than Eminem.

Even more surprisingly, TJ Jefferson, who was a friend of the late actor, even confirmed the story on a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show.

He told listeners: “She had no idea how to throw up a middle finger cause she never flipped anyone off in her entire life until she did 8 Mile with Marshall. Eminem had to sit her down and teach her how to do it.”

The podcaster added: “If you watch the movie, he has a weird way of flipping people off. And if you look, she does [it] the exact same way he does.”

While she might not be cut out for the mean streets, Murphy was certainly a fast learner and even flipped off her mentor in a recently resurfaced clip.

It happened at the 2002 MTV Music Awards, with the Clueless actor giving the cheeky gesture as Shady performs his classic track ‘Without Me’.

Though it’s over two decades old, the clip has quickly gone viral on TikTok as many fans reminisce about Murphy.

In fact, it has gained over 687,000 views as people discussed the close relationship between the two co-stars.

One fan gushed: “I’m convinced they were bestfriends on set.”

Another added: “Omg!! I have loved her ever since clueless ..she is absolutely a beautiful angel.”

Tragically though, we’ll never see the co-stars reunite as Murphy passed away suddenly in 2009.

Following her untimely death, Shady told the press: “It's crazy because at one point we were very close and she was a really good person.”

He added: “It's crazy when you see things not just with her but just all these things that are happening in Hollywood with people in music, with people in acting."
