A statement from his family released to Deadline has confirmed the tragic news.

Hurt's son said: "It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar-winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday.

Hurt was known well for his Academy Award-winning performance in Kiss of the Spider Woman.

He has also appeared in numerous Marvel Cinematic Universe films, such as The Incredible Hulk and Captain America: Civil War.

The late actor revealed back in 2018 that doctors had diagnosed him with with terminal prostate cancer, according to the ABC.

Sadly, the disease had spread to the bone by the time it was detected.
