Phillip and Holly have returned to the This Morning sofa following rumours of a rift.

In recent weeks, it's been reported that the pair's relationship has come under some strain. But the two of them were back together again for today's show:

Schofield, who's been an ever-present for the past 20 years, recently took a break from the show following his brother's sex assault conviction in April.

And last week, The Sun newspaper reported that the pair’s relationship had ‘cooled’, with body language expert saying there was evidence of tension during their show on 11 May.

James said the first few moments of the episodes were ‘toe-curling’, adding: “As Phil got bouncier Holly got less comfortable, standing in the end clutching one wrist with her arms in a barrier ritual.”

Following the reports, the 61-year-old released a statement in which he claimed 'the last few weeks haven’t been easy' for him and his co-host.

“As I have said before, Holly is my rock. We’re the best of friends – as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone,” he wrote.

“Holly has always been there for me, through thick and thin. And I’ve been there for her.

“The last few weeks haven’t been easy for either of us.”

There have been rumours of a rift between the two presenters.

Despite the words of solidarity, however, some fans weren't too convinced, especially when they spotted that Willoughby had changed her Twitter bio, removing reference to Schofield.

The presenter's previous bio made reference to a ‘Twitter legend’ AKA her co-presenter and friend.

She created an account in 2009 – the same year she joined the hit ITV morning show – and included the bio 'I was introduced to this by a Twitter legend'.

However, it has since been changed, and now reads: "Broadcaster, Founder of Wyldemoon, Brand ambassador for Marks & Spencer and Garnier, Author of Reflections."

And while the pair have put on a brave face today as they try to move on from the rumours of a split, some viewers aren't buying it.

"Phil and Holly did not mention the story that has been on front pages of every paper this weekend and trying to act like everything is fine," wrote one. "It just looks awkward."

Another commented: "Holly and Phil ignoring the elephant in the room during the news review on #ThisMorning."

While someone else added: "What a joke Phil and Holly discussing headlines with Charles Brandreth and the only top headline is their fallout which is not mentioned.

"How embarrassing #thismorning."
