Marvel star Scarlett Johansson has revealed how uncomfortable Joaquin Phoenix was when she recorded fake orgasm scenes on the set of Her.

Johansson admitted that Phoenix was that uncomfortable he had to leave the studio when she was recording the awkward scene.

Her released in 2014 in the UK and follows Theodore Twombly (Phoenix) and Samantha (Johansson).

The pair develop a relationship, though it is not the typical one as Samantha is an artificially intelligent virtual assistant personified through a female voice.

On Dax Shepard's Archair Expert podcast, she said: "We tried to get through one take, and he was, like, losing it.

"He was like angry… he had already [filmed the scene], he had done it in person, and now he was with me in this weird theatre and I'm in this box, and he was like staring at me, and the lights are low, and Spike is there… it was so bizarre.

"I was fine. Joaquin was not – he was so upset about it. He left the studio, and now I’m in this box by myself, and I’m like, ‘I can’t do it alone. I need him to come back'. He needed a break; he took a break, and he came back in."

Johansson added what it was like from her point of view having to record the orgasm scene.

She continued: "You don’t want to hear your voice ever. You definitely don’t want to hear what you sound like having an orgasm.

"Ew. It’s so gross. It was so bizarre."

Despite the difficult scenes, Her proved to a major success for its producers, making $48 million at box office.

The Spike Jonze film also had a long list of accolades, including one Academy Award for Best Screenplay at the 86th Oscars, along with four other nominations.

Johansson admitted though she can't stomach watching the film, she said: "I haven't seen that movie in a long time, but I bet if I watched it I would be so mortified."

Elsewhere in the podcast, the Marvel actor discussed her experience of being 'objectified' in Hollywood.

She said: "I kind of became objectified and pigeonholed in this way where I felt like I wasn’t getting offers for work for things that I wanted to do.

"But I remember thinking to myself, I was like, ‘I think people think I’m, like, 40 years old'. It somehow stopped being something that was desirable and something that I was fighting against."
