Seann William Scott made just $8,000 for role in American Pie

Seann William Scott made just $8,000 for role in American Pie

Despite creating an iconic character in Stifler, Scott was paid very little

Stifler is one of the most iconic characters of any comedy in the past twenty-odd years, with people still quoting the foul-mouther jock to this day.

If you've not seen American Pie, check out the trailer:

Despite it being one of the most successful comedies of all time, Seann William Scott was paid hardly anything for his starring role in the film.

And when I say hardly anything, I mean really, very, very little - just $8,000, to be exact.

To put that into some context, the 1999 film cost just $11 million to make and made a whopping $235m at the global box office.

Speaking to Rick Eisen about how the Stifmeister got short-changed, Scott, who worked just six days on the film, said he actually thought it was a lot of money at the time.

Asked if it was true that he received just a few grand for the flick, the 46-year-old said: "That was a lot of money at the time for me. Ch-ching!

"Yeah, because afterwards, I bought a used Thunderbird for like $5,000, or maybe $6k. I'm like, 'Oh yeah, baby'.

"I don't know what happened to the other $2k, because then I ended up having to work at the LA Zoo as a churros guy. So maybe it was even less than $8k."

When pressed on the seemingly paltry amount, Scott said: "It was before it came out. So I shot the movie, we're waiting for it to come out, I got the Thunderbird, maybe I spent all of it on the Thunderbird, maybe it was like the entire $8k or $7k, and then I had this other other job and then I worked at the LA Zoo, waiting for the movie to come out."

Fortunately for Scott, the film was such a smash hit that it spawned an entire series, with the actor starring in three further movies, American Pie 2 and American Pie: The Wedding, and American Reunion - for which Scott was paid a cool $5m. Which ain't too bad.

He's also gone on to have a fairly healthy film career, so I think he's done alright since.

A new sequel is said to be in the works.

Last month, it was revealed that another American Pie sequel was in the works.

The Hollywood Reporter claims the new film will be written by Insecure actor and Definition Please filmmaker Sujata Day, based on an ‘original pitch’ of hers.

While plot details have not yet been revealed, it is believed to be a ‘fresh take’ on the franchise.

The outlet wrote: "The multihyphenate is set to develop and write a new installment of the long-running sex comedy franchise for Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group."

As it's early days, there's also no word on whether or not the project would involve any of the original cast, which includes the likes of Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Scott, Mena Suvari, Eddie Kaye Thomas, John Cho and Jennifer Coolidge, Eugene Levy.

Let's hope it actually happens.
