There's going to be quite a lot of Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz today lads, together we can get over that face early and get on with our lives. The Irishman gained revenge on Diaz last night by winning on points and as well as pride he took home a whole load of money.

McGregor has become the big draw in UFC and everyone was gutted when the pairs rematch was pulled from UFC 200 in July. But the Notorious returned to face the only man to have beaten him in the promotion last night in Las Vegas.

After five rounds the featherweight champion was named the victor by majority decision, winning on two cards and level on one. But it was in his pocket where McGregor was always guaranteed the win. According to the Nevada Athletic Commission, McGregor earned a UFC record $3 million from the fight with Diaz picking up $2 million for his night's work.

The record for the promotion was only set in July at UFC 200 when Brock Lesnar made his one night only return from WWE to beat Mark Hunt earning $2.5 million, Lesnar was later found to have doped in the lead up to the fight.

McGregor's claim that he is the reason that members of the UFC roster are now earning so much seem to be backed up by the fact that it was only in March that he became the first fighter to earn $1 million from a fight and that figure has trebled in just five months.

Neither the Irishman or the fighter from Stockton were contracted to get a win bonus.
