The Batman Hits Cinemas On 4th March

The Batman is almost here and judging by the latest trailer, it’s going to be epic

One of the most anticipated films of 2022 is almost here and judging by the latest trailer, it’s going to be epic.

Since the first DC FanDome Teaser dropped way back in 2020, fans have been eagerly awaiting its release and the wait is almost over. Yes, Warner Bros’ The Batman will hit UK cinemas on 4th March.

Robert Pattinson stars in the dual role of Gotham City’s vigilante detective and his alter ego, reclusive billionaire Bruce Wayne.

We find The Batman early on in his vigilante career, having only spent a couple of years stalking the streets of Gotham. However he’s already become a recluse with only a few trusted allies. When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic schemes, a trail of cryptic clues sends The Batman on an investigation into the underworld.

It’s clear from the trailers that have been released that the film is going to be a gritty, dark affair in terms of its storyline and overall vibe. In fact, to get the overall tone just right in terms of character development, Director Matt Reeves and Producer Dylan Clark did a very deep dive on criminally insane but incredibly intelligent serial killers, such as The Zodiac Killer.

The Batman has a star-studded cast and joining Pattinson is Zoë Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road, Big Little Lies) as the mysterious Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman. Like The Batman she’s quietly been infiltrating Gotham’s seedy underbelly but what’s her true agenda?

The film has villain’s aplenty with Paul Dano playing The Riddler, a masked killer who has devised a sinister series of puzzles and tortuous devices to entrap Gotham’s elite, and Colin Farrell starring as The Penguin, a shady crook who owns Gotham’s exclusive nightlife hotspot.

Of course the film does have some characters we can root for. Even the most lone vigilante needs a few allies and The Batman delivers in the form of father figure Alfred, the only person to know The Batman’s identity played by Andy Serkis (Planet of the Apes) and Lieutenant James Gordon, one of Gotham City Police Department’s finest played by Jeffrey Wright (No Time to Die, Westworld).

Visually the film is like nothing we’ve really seen before and the city of Gotham is almost a character itself. Both Dylan Clark and Matt Reeves have worked together previously on the Planet of the Apes franchise so they know how to bring ambitious and epic landscapes to life on screen. And with Oscar-nominated director of photography Greig Fraser (Dune) on board you just know it’s going to look spectacular.

While it’s a dark and gritty film it’s got real heart to it and you’ll probably leave the cinema quite moved at what you’ve just witnessed.
