Fans have been sent into overdrive about what the title could mean and they've come up with some brilliant theories.

The overlords at Netflix have dropped a bit of information about the final season of Stranger Things.

Everyone is waiting with bated breath for any morsel of detail from the fifth instalment of the incredible TV series.

And now, we've been given a tiny taste.

It's been revealed that the first episode (which, sadly, is the beginning of the end) has an official title.

Episode #501 is titled 'The Crawl'.

Now, there's lots that we could read into that. It could refer to Max slowly recuperating after falling into a coma at the end of season four. Or it could mean the same thing for Vecna after he was badly damaged in the final episode.

It could be more theoretical and could refer to the idea of crawling before you can walk and walking before you can run.

Hawkins was literally split open at the end of the last season and the Indiana town might need some time to heal following such a calamity.

Fans rushed to the comments section to suggest what they thought 'The Crawl' would mean and, frankly, they're all brilliant.

One viewer suggested it could relate to Metallica's 'Master of Puppets, which has a lyric about crawling.

Another fan went further into the Stranger Things lore by cross-referencing crawling with Dungeons and Dragons.

"A dungeon crawl is a type of scenario in fantasy role-playing games in which heroes navigate a labyrinth environment, battling various monsters, avoiding traps, solving puzzles, and looting any treasure they may find," was the official description of a dungeon crawl says.

Don't know about you, but that sounds like a plot trope you would see on the show.

The news about the episode title came on what's known as Stranger Things day.

Fans were also treated with an announcement that a virtual reality game will be coming next year that will let you play as Vecna.

The video game is set to drop in winter 2023 for people in the northern hemisphere, which means it'll drop in the first few months of next year (or, god forbid the last few months of the year).

The official description for the game said: '"Play as Vecna in this new Stranger Things adventure in VR.

"Become an explorer of unknown realities as you form the hive mind and tame the void. Invade minds and conjure nightmares in your quest to enact revenge on Eleven and Hawkins.

"Stranger Things VR is a psychological horror/action game developed by Tender Claws and coming to major VR platforms in Winter 2023."
