Man shares 'incredible' recipe for homemade doner kebab

A TikToker has developed an 'incredible' tasting - yet healthy - version of a takeaway kebab.

Usually, fakeaways never quite live up to the hype.

However, one man has shared a unique recipe which helps you make an 'incredible' tasting - but healthy - version of a takeaway kebab. If you don't believe me, check out the video below:

I think kebabs get a bad rep - hear me out.

Normally, they're associated with being a cheap laxative that tastes wonderful after a heavy night out.

But because the kebab meat is not deep-fried, it can often be a healthier fast-food option.

And Qasim 'Kaz' Rafiq has gone that one step further by providing us with the recipe for a deliciously healthy kebab.

Under the handle @lifeofkaz, the TikToker went viral back in 2021 after showcasing his masterclass in kebab-making.

In the clip he explains that all you need is lamb mince, an egg, some salt and the Da Malat Doner Kebab seasoning - the latter of which he says is the 'key ingredient'.

"So you'll use 20g of this seasoning mix for every 500g of lamb mince," he says in the video. "Also you're gonna need a teaspoon of salt and one beaten egg as well."

Once all that's 'mixed together thoroughly', you blitz it into a paste using a hand blender.

You then shape the mix into a short, fat sausage and wrap it up tightly in tin foil.

"Make sure it's super tight, like a Christmas cracker," Kaz advises.

"Once you've done that, we want a second layer of tin foil again, just to make sure it's super tight and compact. This would then go into the oven at 180 degrees for around 45 to 50 minutes."

He continues: "Once you've got it out the oven, I've skewered it with a knife sharpener just so I can get that final finish under the grill - similar to what you get in the takeaway."

Revealing the final product, Kaz adds: "It tastes amazing and is relatively healthy as well."

Speaking to LADbible, Kaz - from Kilbirnie, Scotland - said he was inspired to come up with a healthier version of the takeaway staple, having managed to shed the pounds recently.

"I've been on a weightloss journey for over two years and I love doner meat, so I had to come up with a healthier alternative to make at home," he said.

"Never expected it to turn out so tasty!"

Kaz, whose motto is 'keep smiling', added: "I watched so many YouTube videos and tried different seasonings, in my opinion this seasoning mix and this method is the closest I've had to ordering out of the takeaway."

In the clip he explains that all you need is lamb mince, an egg, some salt and the Da Malat Doner Kebab seasoning - the latter of which he says is the 'key ingredient'.

And for anyone looking to have a stab at the kebab themselves, Kaz has two top tips - the first is that when wrapping up the kebab 'it should look like a Christmas cracker', and the second being when using the food processor or blender, 'make sure the meat is a paste-like consistency so that you can get the correct texture when cooked'.

And by the sounds of what people are saying in the comments on TikTok, many people feel inspired to give it a whirl.

One person said: "Awesome can't wait to try, you're my saviour - had enough of over priced takeaways, thanks."

Someone else wrote: "You've inspired me! Weight loss journey here too and gotta say, love you for this lol!"

A third added: "Looks delish, definitely gonna give it a go, thanks."
