Tom Cruise bars Aussie journo from media events after conflict from over a decade ago

Cruise was interviewed by the biggest news and entertainment journalists in the country but there was one person who was notably missing.

It turns out Tom Cruise can hold a grudge.

The 61-year-old actor was in Australia last week for the premiere of his latest film, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning.

On the red carpet, Cruise was interviewed by the biggest news and entertainment journalists in the country, but there was one person who was notably missing.

According to Woman's Day, Cruise - or Cruise's people - made sure Channel Nine's Peter Overton was excluded from the guest list.

“Anyone connected to ‘That Interview’ was scratched off [the list], and Peter Overton was certainly among the people who didn’t get an invite,” a source told the publication.

“Tom wanted the spotlight on his film, not his past.”

'That Interview' is of course the infamous 60 Minutes interview from 2005 where Overton asked Cruise about Scientology and his divorce from Nicole Kidman.

In order to interview Cruise, Overton was required to attend a four-hour crash course in Scientology.

Much of the interview involved Cruise singing the praises of his Church, and then Overton asked: "Do you feel discriminated against when people say 'this is what Scientology is.' That you're a bunch on the lunatic fringe?"

"Peter," Tom said.

"Tom," Peter said.

"No one's ever said that to me," Tom replied.

The conversation then turned to Nicole Kidman, and Overton asked if Nicole was the love of Cruise's life, if he wants her to remarry, and whether they have a relationship where they talk professionally about each other's work.

"Listen, here's the thing Peter," Tom said. "You're stepping over the line, you know you are."

"I suppose it's a question that people want to know..." he said.

However, Cruise started repeating, 'Peter, Peter,' over the top of him.

"You want to know. Take responsibility for what you want to know. Don't say what other people... this is a conversation I'm having with you right now. So I'm just telling you right now, put your manners back in."

"Do you think I was out of line?" Overton asked.

"Yes, absolutely," Cruise responded.

The interview happened within the same four-week period where Cruise jumped on Oprah Winfrey's couch and announced that he was in love with Katie Holmes.
