Tom Hanks Has A Code Phrase For When He's Angry

Tom Hanks Has A Code Phrase For When He's Angry

Even the nicest of people have their angry moments...

Tom Hanks is widely regarded as one of the nicest guys in Hollywood, but even he has those days where people rub him up the wrong way.

That being said, he expresses his anger in the most Tom Hanks way possible - with a very non-threatening code phrase.

In a throwback clip of an appearance on TBS' Conan, the Forrest Gump star is questioned over his nice guy reputation.

"You get this reputation which I'm sure bedevils you, but you're such a nice guy," says host Conan O’Brien, later asking, "Do you ever lose it? Do you ever get angry?"

Hanks admits he doesn't like people 'taking advantage' of his good nature, which is fair enough.

And what if anyone does cross that line? "When that happens, there's a code word in the family... let me get this straight."

Yep, if you've done something to make him well and truly miffed, he'll start his sentence with those five simple words.

Unless, of course, you bash into his wife - then you'll get a totally different version of the nice guy of Hollywood.

We know this thanks to a video that emerged yesterday showing Hanks angrily confronting a group of fans after they nearly knocked over his wife Rita Wilson.

The pair were out and about in New York on Wednesday (15 June) when they were mobbed by a crowd outside of a restaurant.

As they walk towards their car, the fans rush to take pictures and talk to the actor, but they become a little bit too overexcited and nearly trip up Wilson in the process.

She shrieks and says 'stop it' before Hanks steps in - and let's just say he's not happy about the situation.

After checking she's okay, he turns to the crowd with his hands in the air and says: "Back the f**k off... knocking over my wife."

The fans look rather sheepish as the couple walk off, which is understandable considering they just got a telling off from Tom Hanks.

While we're on the topic of the actor's temperament, he touched upon his 'nice guy' reputation during a recent in-depth interview with The New York Times.

When asked close to the end of the Q&A whether it's the longest he's gone without being asked about being nice, he responded: "You know, it’s funny you say that about the 'nice' thing.

"How many times have I been having a conversation with some journalist who wanted to say something unique and then the whole first paragraph is: 'Is he nice or not?' It just goes on and on."

Well, maybe that's just because you're so bloody nice, Mr Hanks.
