Fans are already getting pretty excited

Now, don't get too excited because at the moment it's little more than an internet rumour... but an Ace Ventura 3 might be on its way. Merry Christmas!

Yup, according to a cryptic tweet from the usually-reliable Daniel Richtman, Ace might be giving us a third movie.

And if that's not enough vague 'proof' for you then, check out this tweet from Ace Ventura production company Morgan Creek:

Well, that's good enough for me.

Naturally, the tweet prompted a strong response from fans of the original flicks, with one person posting: "If there is a God, and He loves us, there will be an Ace Ventura 3 with Jim Carrey. I will be over the flippin' moon. Not without Jim though."

Another wrote: "An unnecessary sequel from a 90s movie... OL I'll take it this time because Jim Carrey."

As you can probably imagine most people are demanding that if a sequel does happen then Carrey has to reprise the role - which is fair enough. I mean, can you actually picture anyone else playing the Pet Detective?

And it looks as though 2020 is set to become the year of the nostalgic sequel with Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Lizzie McGuire due to land next year, both with original cast members.

So surely the time is right to see Jim Carrey back as Ace Ventura?

And we can be tentatively optimistic for Carrey's return. Last week, We Got This Covered cited an anonymous industry source, who said that Carrey has reportedly expressed interested in reprising his role as the Pet Detective.

But before we get too excited, speaking last year, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls star Tommy Davidson, who played Tiny Warrior, said that Carrey is not on-board with a third movie.

He told US Weekly: "[Carrey] doesn't want to do it now. But Jim is one of those kind of artists that, you know, he does what he feels, he does what he believes in.

"I asked him about it. I told him, 'Hey man, it'd be nice in Jamaica.' He said, 'No I'm not doing those now'. And you know, that's like going on the field and going, 'Hey, Tom Brady, I think you should throw this over to...' No!"

Here's hoping that in the year or so that's passed since this interview took place Carrey has had a change of heart... come on, mate, we're all waiting.
