Courteney Cox And David Beckham Modern Family Hot Tub Scene Airs

A number of celebrities have popped up in Modern Family for a cameo over the years, but arguably none have been as popular with fans as the latest guest stars - footballing legend David Beckham AND Friends actor Courteney Cox.

The two appeared in the 10th episode of season 11, which aired last night in the United States.

Playing themselves, in their scene Beckham and Cox find themselves embroiled in an amusing case of mistaken identity while the Dunphys enjoy a day at Alex's swanky new apartment complex.

They end up in the hot tub, believing they're with a hot-shot bowling coach ahead of a celebrity competition - but, as the long-running series is known a something of a comedy of errors, that's not quite the case...

ABC's episode synopsis explains: "As everyone spends the day at Alex's fancy new apartment building, The Prescott, Luke (Nolan Gould) and Manny (Rico Rodriguez) manage to find themselves in a mixup with Higgins (guest star Stephen Merchant) that might have them hanging out with guest stars David Beckham and Courteney Cox. From 'The Prescott,' season 11, episode 10 of Modern Family."

While I'm sure the whole acting lark came as second nature to Cox, Beckham was absolutely buzzing to be on the show, having said in an on-set video: "I'm here in LA on the set of Modern Family, which I'm really excited about.

"I'm not just a massive fan, but to be here and to be playing a part - that's really incredible, so I'm really excited."

He also shared a clip of his appearance on Instagram, gushing: "So much fun filming on one of my favourite shows #modernfamily with @courteneycoxofficial and @stephenmerchant."

In another post featuring behind-the-scenes shots with his kids, he added: "Still can't believe this happened. So excited to finally see the full episode tonight."

And it would appear that Courteney Cox also enjoyed her time with the Modern Family gang, having also shared a couple of snaps from the set on Instagram.

The post was captioned: "Too hot in the hot tub!"

Viewers at home were just as happy with Beckham and Cox's cameos as they were, with one tweeting: "This episode of @ModernFam is killing me!"

Another said: "The new episode of @ModernFam with David Beckham and @CourteneyCox is hilarious."
