The Witcher was only released on Friday (20 December), but already fans who have binged their way through all eight episodes are eagerly looking forward to the second season.

The series is reportedly set to begin filming in February and fans are hoping Mark Hamill will be cast as Vesemir, an experienced witcher who acts as a father figure to Geralt of Rivia.

The suggestion that the Luke Skywalker actor should play the character stems from a tweet back in March 2018 from the show's creator Lauren Hissrich.

In the tweet, she describes the character of Vesemir, with one person suggesting that Hamill would be perfect for the role.

Of course, the suggestion of one fan in itself doesn't really carry much clout, however, none other than Hamill himself responded to the tweet, suggesting that he should play the character - even though he didn't actually know the first thing about the role:

Clearly, Hamill's response seems to be pretty light-hearted, but off the back of the first season's popularity, who's to say he might not take the possibility of a part more seriously now?

If he does really fancy it then there's every chance he could land the role too. Henry Cavill, who plays Geralt of Rivia, said he secured his 'dream role' after vigorously pursuing it.

He said: "This is very much my kind of thing, and a dream job to have.

"I ended up falling in love with the books after the games, and after I had my first conversation with [executive producer] Lauren Hissrich.

"I pursued it. I heard that Netflix was turning it into a show. And while playing the game, all I was thinking was: 'How can I turn this into a TV show or movie?'

"I hear Netflix has picked it up, and so I called my agents, and said, 'Guys, this is really, really important to me. I want to make sure that I at least get in the door. Obviously you can't get me the role just by a conversation, but get me in the door so that I can at least speak to the right people and express my love for this and my passion for this.'

"And I did. They got me in the door first, and I got to meet Lauren. It was about seven weeks later, after the whole casting process had happened, and they hadn't necessarily found anyone who was going to fit the role more precisely to whatever vision.

"Then they called upon me, and I came back, and did my audition. And I got it that afternoon."

Meanwhile, Hissrich has said there's plenty to look forward to in the second season.

Speaking to GamesRadar+, she said: "What's great about season two, I can tell you, is that, in what we've written, the story becomes much more focused. There's a stronger drive in the story, because all of the relationships that we've been setting up in season one, actually start to come into fruition in season two."
