Laurence Fishburne Has Spoken Out About Why He's Not In The Matrix 4
| Last updated
Laurence Fishburne, who took on the iconic role, has previously spoken out about the fact that he's not involved the fourth instalment of The Matrix franchise.
In a 2020 interview with Vulture, the 60-year-old explained: "I have not been invited. Maybe that will make me write another play. I'm looking for the blessing in that. I wish them well. I hope it's great."
Then in June this year, he told Collider: "It would make sense that people would ask me that, so it doesn't get old. I am not in the next Matrix movie, and you'd have to ask [director] Lana Wachowski why, because I don't have an answer for that."
Fans aren't too happy about it either, with one tweeting: "I'm disgusted, disheartened and in disbelief that Laurence Fishburne won't appear in this movie."
Another added: "If Keanu Reeves was going to bring his hair, makeup and wardrobe over to The Matrix from the John Wick set, I wish he could have brought Laurence Fishburne too."
A third commented: "Where's Laurence Fishburne? Maybe I missed something leading up to the trailer launch I can't possibly imagine a Matrix film without him, Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, or Hugo Weaving."

Others have remained optimistic, however, with one tweeting: "There's something in me that still says Laurence Fishburne is in the new Matrix."
Another agreed: "They show a younger version of Morpheus but I bet Laurence Fishburne will make an appearance by the end."
Whether Fishburne makes an appearance or not, Keanu Reeves has still promised fans 'something special' when he spoke to LADbible last year.
The 57-year-old, who plays Neo, said: "We have a lot of hope and ambition, and we hope that people really enjoy them, and we have the ambition to make some really special films."
He added: "I haven't seen them yet, because we're still making them, but I can tell you that [director] Lana Wachowski is an incredible filmmaker and artist and she's written a wonderful script.
"We're doing our darnedest to make something special, and the same goes for John Wick, we hope that we can create a really satisfying and enjoyable next chapter."
The Matrix: Resurrections premieres 22 December 2021.
