Happy Mondays star Bez is the gift that keeps on giving with this week's Celebrity MasterChef, having had viewers in stitches with his unusual approach to cooking.

The music icon, whose real name is Mark Berry, was first tasked with identifying four times of cheese, stumbling over what he thought may have been emmental.

"Elemental, or what's it called?" he said, before turning his attention to the halloumi.

"Not houmous, but I've forgotten the name of it!"

Bez was then asked to make judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace a carbonara with fresh pasta, which was a challenge he welcomed with a smile, saying it was a dish he's always found 'dead easy' to make.

After Bez had rolled out the pasta and put it on to boil, Torode asked him: "What about the rest of your sauce, how are you going to do that?"

Grabbing a massive rolling pin from the bench to stir his pasta with, Bez replied: "Get some egg yolks on the go."

An exasperated Torode cut in with: "Do you want to use a spoon rather than a rolling pin, mate?"

Bez laughed: "Yes! Sorry, mate."

Gregg Wallace loved it, chuckling away from the sidelines, while Torode hid his face in his hands.

The moment turned out to be an unexpected highlight from the episode, with viewers taking to social media to laugh about Bez's unorthodox technique.

One wrote: "Bez using a rolling pin to stir his pasta on Masterchef has made my day."

Someone else said: "Just laughed so hard at Bez using a rolling pin to stir the pasta that I gave myself an asthma attack."

A third commented: "Bez stirring the pasta with a rolling pin is the funniest thing I've seen all week #CelebrityMasterChef."

Another added: "Because of course Bez stirs his pasta with a massive rolling pin. Legend."

Bez was the only contestant not to use cream in his carbonara, impressing Torode and Wallace with his traditional, non-Anglicised method.

"Some people use cream and that, but I prefer just using egg yolks and cheese," he told the judges in the episode.

"I used to make it when [my children] were kids because it was dead easy to make and it took, like, seven minutes to do."

While Torode said the dish could have done with 'little bit more cheese', overall, he and Wallace were happy with the finished product.

"Your pasta's cooked very, very well," Torode told him.

"You've done a great job, Bez."

Wallace added: "You are having a good competition."
