Netflix is set to produce a new Beverly Hills Cop movie with Eddie Murphy. There is a god.

According to reports, the streaming site is teaming up with Paramount Pictures to bring back Axel Foley.

News of the deal to bring back the Detroit cop was announced by Deadline. The site said the agreement was for a one-time production and will see a return for the film's original star and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

A date for when production will begin on the reboot has not yet been confirmed, but Murphy has said he will start work once he has finished on another movie.

Speaking to Collider, the actor said: "Yeah, that's what we're doing after Coming to America, we're doing Beverly Hills Cop and then, then the plan is to get back on stage and do stand up and then kind of that's what I'll be doing mostly is stand up and Beverly Hills Cop.

The original gang.

"I keep saying it, these movies and Saturday Night Live I'm looking at it as a book end and if I decide I just want to stay on the couch forever I ended it on a funny note and I'll do stand up if I'm feeling creative.

"I can get up on stage and do my stand up and if, you know, some incredible filmmaker comes along with some great movie or there's a great opportunity, but I'm not going to be making movies two, three a year like I did back in the early days because I like to just be home with the kids."

And let's face it, it would be a welcome return for Murphy who, up until recently, had scarcely been seen on either the big or small screen.

Earlier this year, however, he made a successful return with his Netflix movie Dolemite Is My Name.

The film tells the story of struggling comedian Rudy Ray Moore who makes it big with his alter ego, Dolemite, but then risks it all for a shot at the big time with a movie of his own.

The film has received rave reviews, with fans and critics hailing it as Murphy's triumphant return to the spotlight.

Taking to Twitter, one fan urged others to watch it, commenting: "Please watch Dolemite Is My Name on Netflix. You will NOT be disappointed. Hilarious, heart-warming, ridiculous and Eddie Murphy is back with vengeance."
