There's a new Netflix flick to put you on edge this Halloween, with mysterious thriller Rattlesnake coming your way on 25 October.

Written and directed by Zak Hilditch, the film stars Carmen Ejogo as Katrina Ridgeway, a single mum on a road trip with her young daughter Clara (Apollonia Pratt). When they stop in the desert - always a smart move, I know - Clara ends up getting bitten by a rattlesnake, prompting Katrina to strike a dark deal with a strange woman to save her life.

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse than a life-threatening snake bite in the middle of sodding nowhere, the harrowing twist comes when Katrina learns she must kill someone in exchange.

The film is due to be added to Netflix next week, making it a perfect watch to get you all creeped out for Halloween on 31 October.

The official plot synopsis reads: "Katrina is a single mother driving cross country to start a new life with her young daughter Clara when their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere.

"As Katrina changes the tire, Clara wanders off the desert road and is bitten by a venomous rattlesnake. Desperate to save her daughter's life, Katrina accepts the help of a mysterious woman, but after she miraculously heals Clara, Katrina is asked to repay the good deed by killing a stranger in exchange for the life saved.

"Without time to lose, she must wrestle with the morality of who deserves to live and who should die, before her daughter's life is once again put in peril at sundown."

While British-born actor Ejogo has many film credits to her name, more recently she's enjoyed increasingly prominent roles - including in 2017's widely-praised It Comes at Night and Alien: Covenant, 2014 historical flick Selma, and the Fantastic Beasts franchise, in which she's played President Seraphina Picquery.

She's also due to voice a lioness called Regine in the forthcoming Dolittle film, which will star Robert Downey Jr in the title role.

Dropping in cinemas on 17 January next year, alongside Downey Jr. and Ejogo, the movie will also feature the likes of Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen, along with the voices of Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, John Cena, Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer, Tom Holland, Craig Robinson, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez and Marion Cotillard.
