Actor Oscar Isaac has been snapped up to play Solid Snake in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie, Deadline reports.

The Sony Pictures movie is currently in development and has Jordan Vogt-Roberts signed on to direct.

Derek Connolly is reported to be writing the movie, which, as yet, has no production date.

For those unfamiliar with the Metal Gear Solid video game, which was developed by Konami and released on the PlayStation in 1998, it centres on Solid Snake - a solider who manages to infiltrate a nuclear weapons facility in an attempt to neutralise a threat from terrorists.

A movie based upon the game has been in the works for some time, and now, Deadline reports Isaac will be playing Snake in the new flick.

And it seems as though the star has had his eyes on the role for some time.

In an interview with IGN all the way back in March 2019, Isaac was asked which video game-turned-movie he would he like to star in, to which he responded: "Metal Gear Solid, that's the one.

"I'm throwing my hat in for that one."

Not only that, but it seems as though Vogt-Roberts was keen on casting Isaac too.

In a post he announced the 'ball's in Oscar's court'.

During the same 2019 interview, Isaac also shared why he thinks video game adaptions don't do as well as comic book ones.

"With the video game thing, I think the trick will be how do you replicate the feeling of what it feels like to play a video game," he said.

"I think where it goes wrong often is with the plots."

For fans concerned it might not live up to the game, Vogt-Roberts has vowed to 'fight tooth and nail to make sure it's done properly'.

Konami

Speaking to Collider in 2017, he said: "Metal Gear Solid is probably the most important franchise to me on the planet. It is such a genius, idiosyncratic work and being able to spend time with [Hideo] Kojima recently has been like a dream. He's the best and his whole team is the best. We are working on the script.

"That is a property that I will fight tooth and nail to make sure is done properly because it's so easy to screw it up and so easy for a studio to try and make it into G.I. Joe or try and make it into Mission: Impossible or try and make it into something that it's not. Metal Gear Solid needs to be exactly what it needs to be, which is Metal Gear Solid."
