Viewers are saying Mare of Easttown is one of the best TV shows of all time as the final episode brought in the biggest audience for any HBO Original Series on HBO Max. Check out the trailer below:

Taking to social media to share their enthusiasm for the crime drama which stars Kate Winslet as a detective trying to solve the murder of a teen mum in a small town close to Philadelphia.

The show's synopsis reads: "As her life crumbles around her, a small-town Pennsylvania detective Mare Sheehan (Kate Winslet) investigates a local murder.

"The series explores the dark side of a close community and provides an authentic examination of how family and past tragedies can define our present."

On Twitter, one fan wrote: "Just finished Mare of Easttown. I don't know what go say except that I want this series to win all awards possible. What a masterpiece.

"Kate Winslet IS the best actress we have right now. Period."

Another added: "Just watched the Mare of Easttown finale for the second time. Absolutely perfect. One of the best episodes of TV ever.

"Julianne Nicholson and Kate Winslet will win their Emmys no contest. The final scene between them is so profoundly beautiful."

Winslet recently spoke out about her reaction when director Craig Zobel offered to cut out a shot of her character displaying a 'bulgy bit of belly' during a sex scene in the series.

Speaking to the New York Times, she recalled telling Zobel: "Don't you dare."

She went on: "[My character is] a fully functioning, flawed woman with a body and a face which moves in a way that is a synonymous with her age.

"I think we're starved of that a bit."

Mare of Easttown can be streamed on Now TV or Sky Atlantic.
