Taking to social media to share their enthusiasm for the crime drama which stars Kate Winslet as a detective trying to solve the murder of a teen mum in a small town close to Philadelphia.

The show's synopsis reads: "As her life crumbles around her, a small-town Pennsylvania detective Mare Sheehan (Kate Winslet) investigates a local murder.

"The series explores the dark side of a close community and provides an authentic examination of how family and past tragedies can define our present."

"Kate Winslet IS the best actress we have right now. Period."

Another added: "Just watched the Mare of Easttown finale for the second time. Absolutely perfect. One of the best episodes of TV ever.

"Julianne Nicholson and Kate Winslet will win their Emmys no contest. The final scene between them is so profoundly beautiful."

Another wrote: "Mare of Easttown is the best TV series I've ever watched and I now have an emptiness inside because it's over. Give Kate Winslet her Emmy for her performance as Mare Sheehan."

Another simply said: "Hands down one of the best series I've ever watched."

Winslet recently spoke out about her reaction when director Craig Zobel offered to cut out a shot of her character displaying a 'bulgy bit of belly' during a sex scene in the series.

Speaking to the New York Times, she recalled telling Zobel: "Don't you dare."

She went on: "[My character is] a fully functioning, flawed woman with a body and a face which moves in a way that is a synonymous with her age.

"I think we're starved of that a bit."
