Robert Pattinson has been pictured on the set of The Batman for the first time as filming continued following the announcement that the release will be delayed to 2022.

The 34-year-old was in character as Bruce Wayne wearing a suit, tie and coat outside St George's Hall in Liverpool. It looks as though they were filming a funeral scene with extras dressed as mourners.

It seems as though the city is doubling up as Gotham as Gotham Police cars could be seen parked outside the venue.

According to the MailOnline, Warner Brothers vans were spotted in the city centre as workmen hauled props into St George's Hall.

Earlier this month, the announcement was made that the movie would be pushed back several months.

It was originally due to drop on 1 October next year, however it's now been delayed to 4 March 2022.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has caused production to be delayed several times and Warner Bros wants to give the cast and crew more time to get everything done.

Back in August we got the first proper look at Robert Pattinson in the titular role after Warner Bros officially confirmed he would be donning the cape and cowl back in May 2019.

The star will be following in the footsteps of Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck.

Pattinson had been keen on the idea for a while, having heard that the script for the film focused on a younger version of Bruce Wayne.

Co-writer Mattson Tomlin recently teased that the film will look into Wayne's soul, telling Den of Geek: "I think that really looking at Batman as somebody who has gone through this trauma, and then everything that he's doing is then a reaction to that, rather than shy away from that.

"I think this film leans into that in some very fun and surprising ways. I think that's all I can say without getting yelled at."

Pattinson, who recently starred in Tenet, had to keep the role a secret from Christopher Nolan when filming for the 2020 blockbuster mindf*** began, but it turned out the director already knew about it.

Speaking to LADbible, Pattinson said: "He weirdly knew. I had to keep it a secret from him at the beginning because I wasn't allowed to tell anyone about the audition and stuff.

"Obviously Chris somehow knew the most top secret thing that I was supposed to keep under wraps and then he was like 'oh, you're doing the Batman screen test aren't you on Wednesday?' I was like 'no'. It's kind of embarrassing."
