Adrien Brody issued statement after claims he was banned from SNL for infamous Jamaican skit

Adrien Brody won his second Best Actor award at the Oscars

He's just won his second Oscar for Best Actor, but Adrien Brody still can't escape his infamous Saturday Night Live sketch from more than 20 years ago.

On Sunday night (2 March) Brody won for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 97th Academy Awards for his portrayal of Holocaust survivor Laszlo Toth in The Brutalist.

It marked Brody's second win for Best Actor at the Oscars, with him winning back in 2003 for his role in The Pianist, where he portrayed a different Holocaust survivor, Wladyslaw Szpilman.

He remains the youngest man to ever win the award after securing the top prize at the age of just 29.

Also known for roles in the likes of Peaky Blinders, Succession, Blonde, and Midnight in Paris, the New York City thespian is one of the greatest actors of his general.

But his appearance on SNL in 2003 remains one of the most controversial in the show's history.

Hosting the episode as many famous faces do, he also got involved in the creative side of things and starred in numerous skits throughout the special.

Back in May of that year, the 51-year-old infamously introduced musical guest Sean Paul.

With the 'Get Busy' singer hailing from Jamaica, the Brody bizarrely introduced him his best version of a Jamaican accent while wearing a dreadlocks wig.

"Yea man, yea man, yea man, yea man, Jamaica man, ye know," he starts the sketch off by saying while waving his hands. Interesting.

"Rasta, we got the whole family in the house."

He even says the homophobic slur 'kill a b*tty boy' - a slur in Jamaican Patois for gay or effeminate men - which shocked many at the time of it airing.

The video has resurfaced overnight since the Oscar win, with one person writing on TikTok: "This man just won an Oscar lol."

And a second said: "What the actual hell?"

Since then, he's never made another appearance on SNL, despite being one of the biggest names in the game - leading to questions over whether he had been banned without the general public knowing so.

Speaking to Variety earlier this year as award season approached, Brody said he wasn't aware of any such ban.

"But I also have never been invited back on, so I don’t know what to tell you," he added.

Brody admitted that he felt SNL creator Lorne Michaels wasn't impressed with it, saying the 80-year-old 'wasn't happy with me embellishing a bit' while also being 'allowed' to take his own route in the introduction.

"I thought that was a safe space to do that, weirdly," he said.

After winning his second Oscar at the weekend, the Best Actor winner was victim to actress Halle Berry getting her own back on him after kissing him unexpectedly on the red carpet.

When Brody won his 2003 Oscar for The Pianist, Berry presented him with the award only for Brody to kiss her unsolicited, causing a lot of raised eyebrows.
