Britain’s Got Talent viewers unhappy after Golden Buzzer act’s past is revealed

The show handed out two Golden Buzzers, with the first going to a sensational singer

Britain's Got Talent viewers saw the Golden Buzzer pressed twice in the first episode of the returning show.

Amanda Holden was the first to press it, buzzing through singer Sydnie Christmas for her performance of 'Tomorrow', which had the audience on their feet and applauding.

Holden said it was 'the best version I've ever heard in my life' before slamming her hand down on the Golden Buzzer and went up on stage for a hug.

Simon Cowell then told her 'you so deserve what you just got', admitting that he used to hate the song, but Christmas made him love it with her performance.

All in all, a very successful Britain's Got Talent audition and the Golden Buzzer was pressed again in the show as Ant and Dec took their chance to send through the Ssaulbi Performance Troupe.

However, while the judges and audience absolutely adored Sydnie's performance, there were some grumblers watching along at home who tried to spoil the party.

In and among the reactions saying she was 'incredible' and 'totally deserved that Golden Buzzer', some folks moaned that she was 'no newbie' and argued that she had a performing past.

Enough people started moaning that the moaners got moaned about, with one viewer saying: "So much moaning about Sydnie Christmas getting a golden buzzer despite already performing on the West End. So what! Does she have talent? Yes. I’m sure the brilliant Korean king fu people have performed before."

At this point it'd probably be useful to point out that nowhere in the BGT rules does it say that you can't have prior experience in performing, and frankly if it did, then the talent pool for the show would be really rather shallow.

We might wonder about the romantic notion of some hidden gem with staggering levels of talent who has genuinely never found an outlet for it before Britain's Got Talent rolled around.

However, the idea that you're going to find some opera singing lorry driver who's never set foot on a stage before is a bit fanciful.

Also, if you could sing like Sydnie it'd be quite odd if you hadn't performed before, so it's a bit hard to know what the digital peanut gallery is expecting.

Normally on Britain's Got Talent, you get five Golden Buzzers in total, each judge gets one and Ant and Dec can press it as well.

However, last season, Cowell and Bruno Tonioli both pressed the buzzer twice, while the judges collectively gave a Golden Buzzer to Musa Motha.

Plus, ahead of this latest season Cowell said that he was planning on there being nine Golden Buzzers, so there'd be plenty more to come.

Based off those rules you'd assume each judge gets two Golden Buzzers, while Ant and Dec still have their one, but we'll have to see how it all pans out in the weeks to come.
